XROS 4 Tastes Burnt? Here’s the Fix

One of the reasons why people enjoy the vapes in the Vaporesso XROS series so much is because of their incredible flavor quality. Vaporesso’s proprietary COREX technology enables the tiny devices in this series to provide the same kind of flavor that would normally require a full-sized vape mod. Because you always expect a top-notch experience, it’s likely to come as quite a surprise if your XROS 4 tastes burnt. Never fear, though, because you’ll find the help you need in this guide.

Determine Why Your XROS 4 Tastes Burnt

There are two reasons why an XROS 4 or other vaping device can taste burnt. Before you can troubleshoot the issue, you need to determine what type of problem you have.

  • E-Liquid Residue: The most likely reason why your XROS 4 tastes burnt is because you’re using an older pod, and the coil in the pod is covered with residue. In this case, your vape will produce a flavor that seems smoky, caramelized or slightly burnt. You’ll need to replace the pod in order to get back to your regular Vape Vibe. We’ll explain why in the following section.

  • Overheating Coil: The other reason why an XROS 4 can taste burnt is because the coil is overheating. In this case, the flavor will taste hot and harsh. It may also irritate your throat or make you cough. There are several reasons why that can happen, as we’ll shortly explain.

Replace the Pod to Fix E-Liquid Residue

If your XROS 4 is producing a flavor with notes of smoky, burnt sugar, the reason for the problem is that residue from your e-liquid has collected on the pod’s heating coil and is impeding the coil’s performance. When you use your device, you’re not just tasting your e-liquid – you’re also tasting the burnt residue. Replacing the pod will fix this issue.

Aside from menthol, all e-liquid flavors will cause residue formation on a vape coil. The ingredient that causes the most residue, though, is sucralose. Sucralose is the sugar-free sweetener that’s used to make e-liquids and many diet beverages taste sweet. It’s a very effective sweetener, but it can hamper the long-term performance of your XROS 4 because of the residue that it leaves behind when it’s heated. This video shows dramatic evidence of what happens when sucralose is heated; the same thing is happening in your XROS 4 pod if you use sweetened e-liquid.

If you continue using sweetened vape juice, it won’t be long before your XROS 4 tastes burnt again. You can handle this in two ways.

  • You can switch to e-liquid that contains no added sweeteners. In this case, your pods will last much longer.

  • You can continue using the same e-liquid and accept the fact that you’ll need to replace your pods a bit more often.

Make Sure Your XROS 4 Pod Isn’t Low or Empty

If e-liquid residue isn’t the reason why your XROS 4 tastes burnt, it means that your coil is overheating. We’ll spend the rest of this guide discussing how to handle that problem.

If you get a harsh hit from your XROS 4, the first thing that you should do is check the pod to confirm that it’s not empty. The XROS 4 makes this easy because it has a clear pod. If the pod is empty, refill it.

You should never attempt to use any vape pod until it’s completely empty because e-liquid can’t travel from the pod to the coil if it doesn’t touch the wick openings on the side of the coil. As soon as the level of e-liquid is below those openings, you need to add more.

Reduce the Power on Your XROS 4

Are you the type of person who enjoys taking long, deep puffs when you vape? If so, you probably shouldn’t use your XROS 4 at the highest power level because the coil could be drying out and overheating during your puffs. If you take a puff that tastes good in the beginning but becomes harsh at the end, that’s what’s happening. You can resolve this in three ways.

  • You can take shorter puffs to ensure that the coil won’t dry out and overheat.

  • You can lower your device’s power by clicking the fire button three times. The XROS 4 offers three power levels, indicated by the flame icons above the power button.

  • You can use a pod with a lower resistance. Pods with lower resistances have larger wick openings for increased e-liquid absorption. XROS pods are available in resistances of 0.4, 0.6, 0.8, 1.0 and 1.2 ohm.

Let New XROS Pods Stand After Filling Them

Did you experience a burnt flavor with a brand-new XROS pod? In this case, it’s likely that you started vaping immediately after filling the pod. You should always let a new pod stand for several minutes after filling it for the first time because it takes a while for the e-liquid to absorb into the wick. Until the wick is fully saturated, the coil is at risk of overheating. You only need to do this when you’re filling a new XROS pod for the first time.

Replace the Pod to Fix a Burnt Wick

If your XROS 4 still tastes burnt even though you’ve followed the advice in this article, you’ll probably need to replace your pod because it’s most likely damaged. That’s because of how a vape pod works. Inside the coil assembly at the center of the pod is a cotton wick that’s wrapped around the heating element. The cotton keeps the coil supplied with e-liquid by drawing it out of the reservoir – and if it’s allowed to dry out, it can burn.

Any “burnt hit” can damage the wick in your XROS pod if it’s severe enough. If the damage is very bad, you’ll experience a noticeable “burnt cotton” taste when vaping. Even if the damage is mild, though, you might notice an unpleasant tickle in the back of your throat. Since there’s no way to fix burnt cotton, you’ll need to replace the pod. You won’t experience a burnt wick in the future, though, if you follow the tips in this article to ensure that your coil can’t overheat.
